The Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, is set to begin operations as renovation work on the major federal project in Nembe Local Government Area nears completion.
This development was announced following a visit by the university’s top officials, led by Pro-Chancellor Senator John Brambaifa and Vice-Chancellor Professor Reginald Keremah.
Earlier, the governing council and principal officers met with Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, to discuss the university’s launch. The Vice-Chancellor revealed that key issues, particularly concerning the Bassambiri campus, were resolved during the meeting.
Governor Diri affirmed his administration’s full support for the timely establishment of the university, emphasizing its significance for the development of Bayelsa State and its potential to spur agricultural innovation and economic growth.
Additionally, the governing council held its inaugural meeting to address immediate challenges, including infrastructure, staffing, and community engagement.
Pro-Chancellor Brambaifa expressed the council’s commitment to ensuring a smooth start for the university. “With the dedication of the council and the support of stakeholders, we are confident the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, will soon become a center of excellence in agricultural education and research,” he said.
He further noted that the council is moving quickly to ensure the university becomes operational as soon as possible.
The week concluded with a tour of the proposed take-off site in Bassambiri, Nembe. The delegation, led by Brambaifa, was warmly received by the chiefs, elders, and residents of the community. During the visit, the community pledged their full support to the university’s success.
One of the chiefs assured the council of Bassambiri’s cooperation, stating, “We are committed to ensuring the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, thrives. The community will provide all necessary support to make this project a success.”
