The Federal Government, through Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s office, has launched a special intervention program across states, including Oyo State.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Kakulu Florence Omonele, Oyo State Coordinator for the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, represented by Agricultural Officer Biliqia Abdullateef, emphasized the government’s interest in engaging directly with farmers to understand their past season’s challenges and concerns for the upcoming farming season.
At a field engagement held at Kakanfo Inn in Ibadan, Deputy Director Abdulmalik Abdulganiyu explained that the program, organized by the Office of the Vice-President in collaboration with the Africa Fertiliser and Agribusiness Partnership, aims to gather firsthand feedback from farmers across Oyo State’s 33 local government areas. This approach ensures that the government hears directly from the farmers themselves, rather than through representatives or associations, to conduct a thorough needs assessment.
Abdulganiyu highlighted that Oyo State’s inclusion in the program reflects the state’s efforts and achievements in food production. The federal initiative, which targets nine selected states, aims to improve food availability, accessibility, and affordability.
Farmers voiced their challenges, including a shortage of tractors, lack of inputs, and difficulties accessing their farms. Abdulganiyu assured that all gathered data would be used to inform policy and consider farmers’ requests in future interventions.
