The Presidency has issued a clarion call to Nigerians to embrace subsistence agriculture as a viable solution to the escalating cost of foodstuffs in the country.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made this appeal during a parley with a coterie of online editors under the auspices of the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) in Abuja.
According to a communiqué issued by ACOE’s Chairman, Martins Odiete, on Saturday in Abuja, Onanuga drew historical parallels, citing the “Operation Feed the Nation” initiative launched by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1976 and the measures implemented by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 1984 to address food shortages.
Onanuga acknowledged that the current administration’s efforts have yet to yield the desired results, but expressed optimism that the government’s investments in agriculture will yield tangible benefits within the next twelve months.
He emphasized the need for individual contributions to mitigating the food crisis, even as he acknowledged the global nature of the cost of living crisis.
Onanuga assured the association of a symbiotic relationship in the dissemination of news, aligned with international best practices.
Earlier, Odiete had underscored the imperative of collaborating with the presidential media team at a time when Nigerians are eager for credible information from their government.
He noted that in an era of rapid information dissemination across digital platforms, this partnership is crucial for ensuring the accurate, responsible, and effective dissemination of news and information.
