PalmPay, a prominent fintech platform, has collaborated with the Lagos State Government to enhance its agricultural initiative by offering robust payment solutions. This partnership aims to empower residents and businesses with essential financial tools for success through the Food Discount Market initiative, known as Ounje Eko.
Ounje Eko, which means “Lagos Food,” is a food intervention program initiated by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State to provide relief to residents. This initiative is being implemented across five divisions of the State.
The Ounje Eko markets have been established at 27 locations in Ikeja, six in Lagos Island, nine in Ikorodu, five in Epe, and 10 in Badagry divisions. Various food items such as rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, tomatoes, and pepper are being sold at a 25% discount to residents.
Enakeno Umuteme, Head of Marketing Communications at PalmPay, commented on the initiative, stating, “The Ounje Eko initiative is commendable, especially as the country’s inflation rate stands at 30% according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).”
“PalmPay is honored to have participated in the Ounje Eko Initiative and provided support as one of the Independent Payment Solution providers partnering with the Lagos State Government,” added Mr. Umuteme. “We offered POS terminals as a means of payment.”
He further stated, “At PalmPay, we are dedicated to empowering individuals and businesses with the necessary tools to thrive. By supporting this intervention, we believe we have made a meaningful impact in our community.”
With PalmPay’s expertise in delivering secure and efficient digital payment solutions, coupled with its involvement in the discounted market initiative, both vendors and consumers can expect a seamless and user-friendly experience.
