In an effort to improve nutrition and provide humanitarian aid to displaced Nigerians, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has formed a partnership with TechnoServe Nigeria. This collaboration aims to integrate enriched stable food into safety net programs and enhance the capacity of state actors in fortification. During a recent visit to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, a delegation from TechnoServe Nigeria showcased their programs and activities, focusing on areas of potential alignment with the ministry’s initiatives.
TechnoServe highlighted their goal of exploring opportunities to work together in improving nutrition and offering relief to those affected by crises in Nigeria. Adesuwa Akinboro, TechnoServe Nigeria’s country director, led the delegation and met with Gajere Mayen, director of nutrition, Fawekun Oyeyemi, deputy director of nutrition, and other key officials from the ministry.
Akinboro explained that the primary focus of their collaboration with the ministry is to provide training for nutrition officers in the field of fortification. By working together, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, along with TechnoServe Nigeria, strive to make a significant impact on the lives of Nigerians in need by addressing critical issues related to nutrition and humanitarian relief.
During the meeting, Akinboro emphasized that the training provided to nutrition officers would enable them to serve as champions and advocates for nutritious food in the communities they work in, complementing the efforts of TechnoServe and other development partners. She shared an overview of TechnoServe’s mission, impact, and presence in Nigeria, highlighting their goals to provide humanitarian relief for displaced and vulnerable Nigerians and address the country’s nutrition challenges.
In addition to their work in humanitarian relief and nutrition, Akinboro discussed TechnoServe’s commitment to improving the incomes and livelihoods of hardworking individuals in underserved areas across various value chains. By building strong farms and businesses, TechnoServe aims to help these communities develop and provide business solutions to combat poverty.
Aneke A.N, the director of special duties and poverty alleviation at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, expressed gratitude to the TechnoServe team for their visit and the opportunity to collaborate on these crucial initiatives.
