Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has introduced a price control mechanism to tackle rising food prices. During a meeting with market leaders, he announced the rebranding of the state’s Bulk Purchase Company into Gateway Trading Board, which will facilitate bulk purchasing and selling of food items at significantly reduced prices.
Additionally, the governor suspended most market levies, retaining only development and environmental levies, while promising to address high rents for market traders. Gateway Trading Company will initially operate in four zones across the state, aiming to make food more affordable for the public. Market leaders, led by Mrs. Yemisi Abass, expressed their support for these measures.
