Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo, has issued a stern warning against the diversion, unfair distribution, and exclusion of genuine farmers in the ongoing fertilizer distribution across the state. He pledged to take decisive action against anyone found engaging in sabotage.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Lokoja on Saturday, Governor Ododo emphasized his commitment to advancing the state’s agricultural sector. He described the occasion as a significant milestone in his administration’s efforts to prioritize the state’s best interests.
“I will ensure these bags of fertilizer reach the right locations, in the correct quantities, at the appropriate time, and into the hands of our genuine farmers,” the governor stated. “This process must not be politicized. It is meant solely for our farmers, and I will personally track the distribution to prevent any form of mismanagement.”
Governor Ododo highlighted agriculture as a key sector for Nigeria’s economic recovery, noting Kogi State’s favorable agricultural conditions, including vast land, abundant water resources, and a government willing to invest heavily in the sector. He announced that 50% of the current fertilizer batch would be distributed to farmers in the Ibaji and Bassa local government areas, which have significant farming populations.
He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts to address the nation’s economic challenges by promoting agricultural incentives. Governor Ododo reassured Kogi State farmers of his administration’s dedication to supporting their endeavors and ensuring food security.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Timothy Ojomah, thanked the governor for his various initiatives that have positioned Kogi State as a leading agricultural hub in Nigeria. Additionally, the Managing Director of the Kogi State Agricultural Development Project, Mr. George Ogirima, acknowledged the federal government’s provision of 25 trucks of fertilizer, aligning with the governor’s vision to revitalize the state’s agricultural sector.
