Flooding has destroyed at least 4,167 houses and farmlands in Gombe and Yobe states.
In Gombe, 2,517 houses and shops across 33 communities were affected by heavy rains from August 12 to 22. The hardest-hit areas include Dukku, Funakaye, and Billiri LGAs, with minimal farmland damage, though two children were injured, and seven animals were lost.
In Yobe, floods destroyed 1,650 houses in Jajere and Yunusari towns, displacing 413 households. Relief efforts are underway, with the state government promising aid delivery within 48 hours.
Meanwhile, Taraba State has established a Flood Control Team in all 168 wards to prepare for potential flooding from the release of water from Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam.
Residents in flood-prone areas of Anambra State have been advised to evacuate crops, poultry, and livestock due to rising water levels in the River Niger. Some communities are already taking precautions, with residents relocating and harvesting crops to prevent losses.
