To bolster food security and agricultural productivity, the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to establish a global partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, during a meeting with a high-level delegation from the WFP, led by newly appointed Regional Director, Mr. Chris Nikoi, at his office in Abuja on Tuesday. Edun emphasized that the visit is part of ongoing efforts to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by enhancing food security and boosting agricultural productivity.
In a statement by Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations, the meeting, which also included the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, focused on exploring opportunities for partnership and collaborative initiatives to drive agricultural growth in Nigeria.
The WFP delegation highlighted numerous collaboration opportunities and expressed their commitment to supporting Nigeria’s agricultural sector through joint initiatives. These initiatives will include service delivery programs aimed at providing essential farming inputs such as fertilizers and seeds to enhance agricultural output and ensure food security.
Mr. Edun praised the WFP for its proactive engagement and stressed the importance of their contributions in advancing President Tinubu’s Reform Agenda, particularly in increasing food availability and boosting agricultural production. He assured the delegation that the Federal Ministry of Finance would take the necessary steps to facilitate the implementation of the proposed initiatives.
With this partnership, Nigeria is set to make significant progress in food security and agricultural productivity, contributing to the country’s economic growth and development. This collaboration promises improved service delivery, increased agricultural output, and a brighter future for Nigerians.
