In a bid to prove critics wrong, the Bauchi State Government is set to commence the distribution of 70 trucks of assorted fertilizer donated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to farmers.
The fertilizer will be distributed to selected poor farmers across the 323 political wards in the state, as disclosed by the Distribution Committee chaired by the Emir of Jama’are, Alhaji Nuhu Ahmed Wabi.
Speaking after the committee meeting on Tuesday, Alhaji Wabi stated that arrangements have been finalized to distribute the 42,000 bags of fertilizer free of charge to farmers throughout Bauchi State. He emphasized that the CBN, through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, donated the 70 trucks of fertilizer to boost farming activities in the state.
The committee will ensure the commodity reaches farmers in all polling units across the 20 local government areas. Alhaji Wabi also mentioned that various communities, labor unions, religious organizations, women’s groups, youth groups, and other bodies will receive the free fertilizer.
He praised Governor Bala Mohammed and the federal government for the initiative, which he believes will significantly support grassroots farmers. He urged beneficiaries to utilize the fertilizer effectively to enhance agricultural production and ensure food security, given the state’s abundant land, human, and natural resources.
The traditional ruler expressed gratitude to the state government for appointing them to serve on the committee and vowed to ensure justice and equity in the distribution process.
It is worth noting that the committee’s terms of reference include designing criteria for selecting genuine farmers and farmers’ associations, ensuring fair distribution of the fertilizer, and submitting a report to the state government within three weeks.
