The Nigerian Women for Agricultural Progressive and Development Initiative (NWAPDI) is organizing a National Youth in Agriculture Convention to create opportunities for young Nigerians in the agricultural sector.
NWAPDI National Coordinator, Omolara Svensson, stated that the convention aims to expose youth to the vast opportunities in agriculture. “The opportunities are enormous, from access to scholarships in government-owned institutions, affordable funding, training in cash crop cultivation, processing and export, as well as training in fishery and livestock,” Svensson said.
She emphasized that the agricultural sector is the only one in the country that guarantees sustainable income, urging Nigeria to build future leaders in this green industry. “From cash crop farming to processing, commodity export to livestock, the agriculture sector offers a sustainable and decent source of income for a lifetime,” she added.
The convention, themed “Sowing the Seeds of Sustainability,” will take place on August 14, 2024. It is open to youth aged 16 to 35 and can be attended in person or via a webinar.
Participants will have access to 100% government-sponsored scholarships for federal, state, and polytechnic institutions, training on accessing affordable local and international funding, and various other benefits. These include training on export markets, crop and livestock production, and local and international networking opportunities.
