The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted rumors circulating on social media about a directive to pay corps members a minimum wage of N70,000.
In a statement on Sunday, NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, labeled the rumor as “absolute falsehood” and urged corps members and the public to disregard it.
The clarification comes amid widespread speculation and excitement among corps members over the rumored wage increase.
Megwa emphasized that the NYSC has not received any directive from the relevant government agency responsible for wage matters, making it impossible for the scheme to issue any information on the matter. He also advised corps members to avoid being misled by mischief-makers and to adhere to the approved channels of communication within the scheme.
The NYSC spokesperson further warned bloggers and social media influencers against making unauthorized statements regarding the management of the scheme.
“This is absolute falsehood which is far from the truth. No directive has been received from the relevant sector of government responsible for wage matters. Corps members already know the approved channel and mode of communication within the scheme and should therefore ignore the directive accordingly.
“The NYSC, by this release, therefore admonishes corps members to desist from allowing mischief-makers who are set on misleading Nigerians from continuing to play on their intelligence. Bloggers and social media influencers are warned to stop issuing statements concerning the management of the National Youth Service Corps without authorization,” Megwa said.
