Osun Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, announced on Thursday that his administration has received the first batch of 72 newly assembled tractors out of the 114 ordered, aiming to boost food production and support farmers in the state.
The governor shared this update after a meeting with a Nordic firm interested in establishing a tractor assembly plant in the state. He noted that useful but moribund tractors would be repaired alongside the newly procured ones. “About 24 trucks carrying 3 tractors each have arrived in the state as part of the first batch, with more still expected,” he stated.
These new tractors come equipped with three diffraction ploughs and can be attached to carriers. Adeleke emphasized that his plans for the agricultural sector are robust and inclusive, marking the beginning of various programs in the sector. He also mentioned that the state government would explore leasing arrangements with tractor hiring associations to ensure farmers receive the necessary support to increase food production and mitigate rising inflation.
The governor assured residents that despite the current economic challenges, he remains committed to fulfilling his promises. It’s worth noting that in June, Governor Adeleke outlined his administration’s plans for the agricultural sector, addressing farm inputs, tractorization, and food security issues.
