The Akwa Ibom State Government plans to distribute 48,000 bags of rice to alleviate economic hardship among residents, covering 2,272 villages. Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Offiong Offor, announced this during a press briefing at the NUJ Press Centre in Uyo. The distribution includes 24,000 bags from the Federal Government and an additional 24,000 bags approved by Governor Pastor Umo Eno to supplement the federal supply. Dr. Offor emphasized that this initiative aims to support families and commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its commitment to easing Nigerians’ suffering. She detailed the distribution plan, with each of the 2,272 gazetted villages set to receive 20 bags of rice. Additionally, over 100,000 families registered in the social register and benefiting from the Bulk Purchase Agency will also receive aid. Dr. Offor underscored the distribution as a short-term measure and emphasized long-term solutions through initiatives like the back-to-farm program.
