Twenty brand-new tractors have been allocated to farmers in Bauchi State to meet the high demand for tractors among local farmers.
These tractors were acquired by the Bauchi State Project Implementation Office of the World Bank-funded Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReASAL) Project, with support from the State Government. This initiative aims to enhance farming activities and contribute to food security in the state.
In addition to the tractors, the project has also procured 94 rice milling machines, 470 knapsack sprayers, 47 multipurpose threshers, 47 decorticating machines, and 6 animal feed crushers, all of which will be available to farmers on a hire-purchase basis. Dr. Ibrahim Kabir Gamawa, State ACReASAL Project Coordinator, shared this information with journalists in Bauchi, stating that the goal is to support farmers in achieving substantial food production.
Dr. Gamawa also mentioned that the State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed, inaugurated these machines during the launch of the 2024 farming season and fertilizer sales event held in Dass Local Government Area.
He noted that the ACReASAL Project, which focuses on Land Restoration, Community Resilience, and Institutional Strengthening, has significantly enhanced environmental standards and living conditions across the state. Plans are underway under the ACReASAL Greening the Environment, Saving Lives initiative to plant over one million trees in areas facing environmental challenges, aiming to restore one million hectares of degraded land.
Additionally, the procurement of two vehicles for the Safari at Yankari Game Reserve and the renovation of public facilities at Wikki Warm Spring have boosted revenue generation by attracting more tourists.
Dr. Gamawa praised the Governor for supporting the World Bank-assisted project through the release of counterpart funding, which has facilitated the execution of various state projects and positively impacted the lives of residents.
