Stakeholders in the Nigerian agricultural sector, especially those involved in the livestock value chain, have praised the Federal Government for establishing the Ministry of Livestock Development. This ministry aims to boost protein production, create job opportunities, and increase government revenue.
Chief Emmanuel Folorunsho Ogunnaike, Chairman of Folhope Nigeria Limited, emphasized that the success of the ministry depends on eliminating corruption, ensuring equal rights, and addressing security issues such as militancy, Boko Haram, cattle herders’ crisis, and kidnappings. He believes that these security challenges are fundamental to resolving food insecurity in Nigeria.
Mr. Tunmise Olagbaju, Managing Director of Real Concept, expressed optimism about the ministry’s creation, noting that livestock farming in Nigeria has long been neglected in favor of crop farming. He believes that the ministry’s establishment is timely and crucial for the development of the livestock sector, providing benefits for livestock farmers and creating jobs for the youth.
