The Bauchi State Government has allocated $250,000 to support selected farmers’ cooperative societies, aiming to enhance food production and promote agriculture. Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed launched the 2024 farming season by initiating the sale of fertilizers and other farming inputs, warning against hoarding. The administration plans to acquire more equipment and hire extension workers to boost agricultural yields.
Despite challenges and limited resources, the state prioritizes agriculture, aiming to establish fertilizer production. The cost of a 50kg bag of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer is subsidized to N20,000. The state will also reopen forests previously closed due to security issues to encourage food production. Sixty new tractors and modern farming machines have been procured to promote mechanized farming, with assurances of adequate security for farmers. The ceremony, attended by various dignitaries, was cut short by heavy rain.
