Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has launched the distribution of free fertilizers provided by the federal government to farmers across the state. This initiative is part of the federal government’s commitment to enhancing food security in Nigeria.
The distribution, which includes NPK and Urea fertilizers, began in Awe, the headquarters of Awe Local Government Area, and will extend to all 13 LGAs in Nasarawa State. Governor Sule emphasized that these fertilizers are provided at no cost to farmers by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The fertilizers were provided to the farmers in the state at no cost by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” said Governor Sule.
He further clarified that the Nasarawa State government covered only the transportation and related costs to deliver the fertilizers to the LGAs for distribution.
Each of the state’s 147 wards will receive at least 16,000 bags of fertilizer. Additionally, farmers’ associations, disability groups, religious groups, and traditional institutions will benefit from this initiative aimed at boosting food production in the state.
Governor Sule assured that all LGAs would receive their share of the fertilizers within one week. He stressed that the beneficiaries must be genuine farmers, irrespective of their political, ethnic, or religious affiliations, and warned against the sale of the fertilizers.
To ensure the effectiveness of this initiative and to achieve a bumper harvest and enhanced food security, the governor urged stakeholders to ensure that only genuine farmers benefit from the distribution.
