The Federal Government has initiated the distribution of food items and cash to 2,000 vulnerable individuals and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the North.
Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, launched the distribution of food palliatives in Damaturu, the state capital of Yobe.
He stated that the initiative aims to support at least 500 PWD households in Yobe and 2,000 households in the North East by providing essential food supplies, bags of rice, and cash support to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
‘‘Approximately 2,000 beneficiaries are being targeted in the Northeast due to the region having the highest number of Persons With Disabilities as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency.
‘‘The number of internally displaced people (IDPs) and vulnerable groups in the Northeast has surged due to the terrorist group’s attacks,’’ he said.
He mentioned that the distribution would continue across the remaining states in the region, with a committee established to ensure a seamless process, working with locals to identify beneficiaries.
He added that this distribution event highlights the Tinubu administration’s commitment to promoting social inclusion and reducing food insecurity among Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations, ensuring no one is left behind.
