More than 8,800 smallholder farmers spread across Ogun State’s 20 Local Government Areas have been provided with agricultural inputs, assets, and infrastructure through the OGUN CARES FADAMA program to enhance farming output. Commissioner for Agriculture, Bolu Owotomo, emphasized Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to supporting farmers, especially during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The assistance includes various items such as Day-Old Chicks, feed, sprayers, cassava processing equipment, and more. Additionally, the state has undertaken road rehabilitation, culvert renovation, drainage improvements, and borehole provision to enhance hygiene and reduce food contamination at wet markets. Beneficiaries were encouraged to utilize the resources effectively for optimal profitability and to contribute significantly to the state’s economy. The NG-CARES initiative, supported by the World Bank, aims to mitigate the pandemic’s impact on vulnerable households. Over 10,000 farmers have already benefited from the project, with positive feedback received on the transformative impact of the support. Community Facilitators are available in various localities to provide guidance and extension services. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to both the state and federal governments for the assistance, pledging to maximize the resources for increased productivity and abundant harvests.
