Leadership from student and youth unions have urged President Bola Tinubu to designate Dr. Samuel Onoji, the current acting Principal of the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), as the institute’s permanent Principal. This appeal was communicated in a letter jointly signed by various student and youth organizations, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), National Association of University Students (NAUS), National Association of Colleges of Education Students (NACES), Nigerian Youth Union (NYU), and African Students Education Support Initiative (ASESI). The signatories emphasized Onoji’s demonstrated competence, integrity, and leadership qualities, citing his positive impact on the institute’s environment and academic performance. They stressed the urgent need for a seasoned leader like Onoji to address the challenges facing PTI and enhance its standing within the oil and gas industry. Additionally, they highlighted Onoji’s recent training at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), underscoring his readiness for the role. The groups firmly advocated for Onoji’s appointment as the Principal and Chief Executive Officer of PTI to fulfill the institute’s mandate of producing skilled manpower for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
