One Acre Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting smallholder farmers in Nigeria, will officially commence the 2024 input delivery to farmers on Thursday in Bosso Local Government, Niger State. Mr. Kazi Nanyah, the spokesperson for One Acre Fund Nigeria, announced this in a statement provided to the Nigerian Tribune in Minna, the capital of Niger state.
He stated, “This event marks the beginning of our input delivery season, during which we will distribute high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs to over 65,000 smallholder farmers across communities in Niger and Kwara States.” The statement highlighted that the event will be attended by government officials, development partners, community leaders, security agencies, and representatives from One Acre Fund, underscoring the commitment to supporting farmers and advancing agricultural development in Nigeria.
Kazi Nanyah emphasized that One Acre Fund has been supporting smallholder farmers in Nigeria since its establishment in 2018, providing access to high-quality agricultural inputs, training, and financing. He reiterated the organization’s dedication to promoting food security, ending hunger, and poverty by enhancing farm productivity and improving the livelihoods of rural farmers.
The spokesperson further explained, “Our last-mile delivery approach ensures that farmers receive the inputs they need directly at their doorsteps, empowering them to succeed in their farming endeavors.” He also highlighted the Trees program, noting that in 2023, One Acre Fund delivered 2.6 million trees to 110,000 farmers in Niger state as part of their efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.
Currently, we are establishing decentralized nurseries in three states: Niger, Nasarawa, and Kwara, with the aim of distributing 6 million trees to 220,000 farmers this year. As part of our ongoing efforts to reach more farmers and broaden our impact, we have expanded our operations beyond Niger State to include Kwara and Nasarawa States.
This expansion underscores our dedication to reaching underserved farming communities and promoting agricultural development across multiple states in Nigeria.
