On Monday in Jalingo, the Taraba State government welcomed the arrival of hundreds of anthrax vaccine doses from the federal government. Professor Nicholas Namessan Oliver, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, expressed gratitude, highlighting the crucial role these vaccines will play in the state’s fight against anthrax. The Agriculture and Food Security department accepted the vaccines on behalf of the Taraba State government.
The commissioner expressed gratitude to the federal government, announcing that the vaccines would be evenly distributed among livestock farmers across all sixteen local government councils and the two special development areas of the state. He underscored that this distribution strategy aims to safeguard the state’s livestock and ensure the integrity of its agricultural sector.
Highlighting the government’s steadfast commitment to animal health and food security, he noted that similar anthrax vaccines were procured and distributed to livestock farmers in the state the previous year. Abubakar Sadiq, representing the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security as the Animal Health Technical Assistant, emphasized the critical role of these vaccines in preventing anthrax spread within the state.
Sadiq emphasized the disease’s threat to livestock and, consequently, to the farmers reliant on them for their livelihoods. He urged collective efforts to prevent any outbreak of anthrax within the state.
