In a statement on Tuesday, Secretary-General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro declared the killings as “a vicious and intentional assault on its people, particularly those residing in border communities.” Ohanaeze Ndigbo refuses to accept that these attacks are mere coincidences, following the Northern Elders Forum’s lamentations over similar incidents.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo highlights a concerning pattern and urges prompt action to uncover the truth behind these violent retaliations. They request South-East governors, the Inspector General of Police, and security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the recent killings. Emphasizing the importance of safeguarding residents, especially rural farmers, the statement urges leaders to take action and protect vulnerable communities under threat.
Offering their condolences to Enugu State Governor Peter Mba and the grieving families in Nimbo, Ohanaeze Ndigbo demands that those responsible for the atrocities face the full repercussions of their actions. The organization encourages South-East residents to work together with community vigilante groups and security forces to strengthen rural area security. In a united front against potential attacks aiming to disrupt farming seasons and sow false insecurities to hinder food production, vigilance is essential. Ohanaeze Ndigbo also urges South-East Governors to reinstate the ban on foot-conveyed cattle within the region, emphasizing that “cattle-rearing operations must adhere to established laws and respect the peace of our host communities.”
