On Friday, the Taraba State government announced its completion of plans to distribute the inaugural set of tractor units to farmers across the state.
Professor Nicholas Namessan, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources in the state, revealed this information to journalists during an inspection of the assembly process for 20 Cabrio and 250 mini tractors in Jalingo.
The Commissioner explained that Governor Agbu Kefas has formulated a plan outlining the distribution of the tractors to farmers across the 16 local government areas at a subsidized rate. He also mentioned that 60 local engineers have been trained by Ghanaian engineers to assemble, maintain, operate, and train farmers in tractor operation and maintenance.
As promised by Governor Agbu Kefas, the initial shipment of 100 Cabrio and 750 mini tractors is scheduled for distribution to farmers in Taraba on May 28, 2024.
We have currently acquired 20 Cabrio and 250 mini high-power tractors, which are slated for distribution to our farmers on May 28, 2024. The government has established a distribution framework based on farmers’ registration. The initial evaluation of registrations conducted across various local governments will inform the tractor distribution process.
“I would like to announce that Governor Agbu Kefas has also finalized plans to subsidize the prices of fertilizer and herbicides for farmers. This initiative aims to alleviate any challenges encountered by farmers in their endeavors to enhance food production in Taraba.”
“I want to assure you that the tractors will be allocated directly to authentic farmers, aligning with the government’s goal of eradicating hunger in Taraba,” stated the commissioner.
