Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited, a leading agribusiness in Nigeria, has backed Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s launch of the South-west Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Women Agricultural Support Programme and the commencement of the 2024 Ogun State Planting Season. As part of its commitment to empowering rural women and enhancing food security in the region, the company has provided one thousand (1000) 5-week-old Noiler Birds for 100 women.
Additionally, each beneficiary received 12.5kg of Amo Byng Grower Pellet as a start-up kit for small-scale poultry farming, along with a pack of Divertamin. This combination of essential nutrients is aimed at ensuring the Noiler Birds achieve optimal growth and production.
The Noiler Birds were handed over to the Ogun State Government during the launch of the RHI South-West scheme in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Tuesday, April 17th, 2024. Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Her Excellency, presented them, and Governor Dapo Biodun of Ogun State praised Amo Farm’s partnership with the state in advancing agriculture through empowerment initiatives, deeming it highly commendable.
During the event, Amo Farm’s Group Managing Director, Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, reiterated the company’s dedication to fostering women’s participation in agribusiness through Noiler farming in the South-west. This commitment, he emphasized, aimed at bolstering food security, alleviating poverty, and addressing malnutrition by providing animal protein.
Remarkably, the groundbreaking Noiler Bird innovation and Amo Farm’s poverty alleviation initiative have garnered extensive recognition, having been thoroughly documented and reviewed in the prestigious Harvard Business Review.
Introduced in 2014 following years of meticulous research and development via a selective breeding process, the Noiler represents a dual-purpose chicken breed that serves as a vital protein source. Resembling native chickens in appearance and taste, it boasts disease resistance and yields four times more eggs and three times more meat.
This innovation aims to revolutionize rural poultry production, enhancing productivity and income for rural women while fostering job creation and improving access to animal protein in Africa. By addressing malnutrition and bolstering food availability, it seeks to alleviate hunger and promote overall well-being on the continent.
Notably, the Noiler’s eggs offer substantial nutritional value across all age groups, while its meat is rich in essential amino acids and low in saturated fats and cholesterol.
The event drew the attendance of First Ladies from the Southwest States and dignitaries from across the nation, including royal figures and other prominent personalities.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the National Chairperson of the RHI, underscored the scheme’s significance, themed “Making Life Better for Families,” which launched in February 2024. Designed to empower women across various sectors, particularly agriculture, in alignment with the Federal Government’s food security agenda, the initiative includes grants of N500,000 for 20 women each in agriculture, fishing, and animal husbandry from every Southwest state. Additionally, 100 individuals with disabilities received N100,000 each during the event.
