Olam Agri, a prominent agribusiness in Nigeria focusing on food, feed, and fiber, has restated its commitment to supporting the nation’s food security goals. This pledge was made during a recent meeting with Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
The meeting, which was part of Olam Agri’s strategic engagements with key stakeholders in the agribusiness sector, saw the participation of Anil Nair, the Managing Director of Olam Agri in Nigeria, Zacchaeus Adedeji, the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, the Accountant General of the Federation, and Ade Adefeko, the Director of Corporate & Regulatory Affairs at Olam Agri.
The recent engagement followed a courtesy visit to Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima and a tour of Olam Agri’s rice farm and mill by Sen. Abubakar Kyari, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.
During the meeting, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy urged Olam Agri to capitalize on its significant presence across various value chains, including rice, sesame, animal and fish feed, wheat milling, as well as biscuits, confectionery, and culinary product manufacturing.
He discussed government reforms aimed at curbing inflation, particularly in the food sector, and encouraged the agribusiness to continue leveraging its scale, global expertise, and resources to enhance access to quality food and nutrition for the population, thereby contributing to food security.
In response, Anil Nair, the Managing Director of Olam Agri in Nigeria, highlighted the company’s commitment to driving food security through substantial investments in increasing productivity across multiple value chains, including rice, animal feed and protein, wheat milling, sesame, and edible oils. He emphasized Olam Agri’s ongoing efforts in expanding involvement in out-grower programs, research and development, partnerships, collaborations, and initiatives to empower smallholder farmers for the benefit of Nigeria.
