The North East Governors’ Forum has committed to supporting the improvement of the lives of Nigerian women through the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme (RHI-WASP), a flagship project of Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady.
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, who serves as the Chairman of the forum, announced this during the launch of the initiative for the North East Geo-political zone in Maiduguri.
Zulum praised the First Lady for offering opportunities to women in both urban and rural areas, stating that the forum would discuss the initiative and strategize on the most effective ways to support it in empowering women and other vulnerable groups.
The governor emphasized that agriculture remained a top priority in the state government’s programs.
In her address, Aisha Mohammed, the North East Zone Chairman of RHI-WASP and wife of the Bauchi State Governor, pledged the support of governors’ wives in the zone for the success of the initiative.
Mohammed highlighted that governors’ wives in the zone also have their own projects to complement such initiatives aimed at empowering vulnerable individuals.
Similarly, Dr. Falmata Zulum, the wife of the Borno State Governor, emphasized that the support provided to women and other vulnerable groups has fostered a sense of belonging among them. As the chairperson overseeing the implementation of the RHI program in Borno, she assured that women and the vulnerable would benefit from the program.
According to reports, the First Lady, represented by the Vice President’s wife, Hajiya Nana Shettima, presented cheques to governors’ wives from the Northeastern states for distribution to female beneficiaries of the program.
The reports also indicate that the First Lady’s initiative focuses on Agriculture, Health, Education, Social Investment, and Economic Empowerment.
