Mrs. Tinubu stated that the initiative is designed to motivate women farmers to increase food production, aligning with the agricultural priorities of the Tinubu-led government.
On Tuesday, Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the president, distributed N70 million to 140 female farmers in the North-West region of the country.
Twenty women engaged in agriculture across the seven states in the zone were granted N500,000 each through the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme initiated by the first lady.
Likewise, 100 individuals with disabilities in the region received N100,000 each in support.
During the distribution of funds in Birnin Kebbi, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the scheme’s goal of empowering women farmers to increase food production, aligning with the agricultural agenda of the Tinubu-led administration. She reiterated her dedication to empowering women in agriculture, enhancing production, and promoting animal husbandry.
“Agriculture plays a crucial role in achieving sustainable development and food security,” Mrs. Tinubu remarked. “As a result, we are launching the ‘Every Home a Garden’ competition to encourage Nigerian women to cultivate home gardens, ensuring food on every table.”
Represented by Fatima Tajuddeen-Abbas, the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Tinubu outlined that the competition’s winner would receive a N20 million star prize. Additionally, she announced plans to establish young farmers’ clubs in primary and secondary schools nationwide to foster farming awareness among students towards self-sufficiency. Schools with outstanding farms would be recognized and rewarded.
Earlier, Zainab Nasir-Idris, the wife of Kebbi governor, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Tinubu for her generosity and for selecting the state to launch the program in the North-West region.
Governor Nasir Idris highlighted his administration’s substantial investments in procuring fertilizers and agricultural inputs distributed freely to farmers, strengthening agricultural production. He reaffirmed his commitment to creating a conducive environment to support women’s participation in agriculture, including facilitating access to market finance and technology for food security.
