Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, praised Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, the Wife of the Inspector General of Police and President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, for empowering women in agriculture within the state. He emphasized that this support would greatly enhance food security in Bauchi.
Governor Mohammed conveyed his appreciation during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) at the Bauchi Government House. Mrs. Egbetokun, during her one-day working visit to the state, launched the Women in Agriculture program of the Police Wives Association.
Expressing his satisfaction with Mrs. Egbetokun’s initiative, Governor Bala highlighted the potential for significant increases in agricultural productivity, improved food security, economic growth, poverty reduction, and the creation of employment opportunities and livelihoods for the people of Bauchi State.
He stated that recognizing agriculture as the primary source of employment, his administration swiftly devised a comprehensive agricultural development plan upon assuming office. This plan aims to utilize Bauchi’s land resources to unlock the state’s industrial potential.
“We deeply appreciate the Nigeria Police Force, led by your husband, who embodies energy, innovation, and creativity within the force. My initial interaction with him in the cabinet enlightened us on his impactful initiatives within the Nigeria Police. Despite limited resources, he achieves remarkable results, contributing to the peace in the nation. It’s often said that behind every successful person is a great woman, and we are pleased that our sister stands beside him.”
Our sister is embarking on a program called “Women in Agriculture” aimed at empowering women in agriculture. Each local government area will have one woman trained in crop production techniques adapted from America, focusing on utilizing minimal water to grow vegetables and meet other agricultural needs. We’re genuinely excited about this innovative approach, not only in terms of agricultural inputs but also in the significant output it promises.
“We don’t settle for second place in Nigeria; we always strive to be at the forefront. With this program you’re offering us, we assure you that we’ll surpass expectations because we’re committed to pioneering new initiatives. This effort is truly commendable,” he remarked.
Earlier, Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun, the wife of the IGP, expressed her deep connection to Bauchi, known as the pearl of tourism. She explained that Bauchi holds a special place in her heart, not just because it’s her place of origin, but also due to the warm hospitality of its people.
She highlighted that Bauchi State has witnessed significant progress under Governor Bala Mohammed’s leadership, encompassing infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other sectors. She commended the governor’s steadfast dedication to the people of the state.
Mrs. Elizabeth expressed appreciation for the warm reception she received and disclosed plans for the Women in Agriculture program to train and support one woman from each of the twenty local government areas in Bauchi State, with assistance requested to ensure the program’s success.
