The Pan Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has called upon governors in the southwest region to enlighten farmers in their respective states about the diverse agricultural incentives offered by the federal government.
It highlighted that farmers in the southwest states lacked awareness of the incentives and grants provided by the federal government. Afenifere made this appeal during its caucus meeting, convened at the residence of its leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.
Afenifere spokesperson Jare Ajayi, addressing reporters post-meeting, expressed concerns about the potential disappearance of the Yoruba language. Ajayi emphasized the importance of both parents and governors in safeguarding the Yoruba language.
He acknowledged and praised Kole Omololu’s appointment as Acting Secretary General of Afenifere.
He stated, “The Afenifere meeting urged the state governors in Yoruba-speaking states to facilitate farmers’ access to federal-level facilities. It’s concerning that many parents are not just failing to teach their children their language but also not speaking it themselves, posing a significant risk of extinction in the future. Therefore, the meeting encourages all parents not only to speak the language at home but also to actively teach it.”
“The farmers expressed that they have learned about certain government facilities, particularly at the federal level, which they are not benefiting from.”
“Today’s Afenifere caucus meeting, however, urged individuals to persist in disseminating information about available facilities. In cases where state governments are required to contribute counterpart funds, it was noted that such contributions are necessary for farmers to access federal-level funds.”
