Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, advocates addressing the dire impacts of poverty and insecurity in northern Nigeria through agricultural and industrial revolutions.
During his ongoing tour of the North, Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) chieftain, emphasized the need to address the pressing issues of poverty and insecurity in northern Nigeria. This statement was made during his courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Nuhu Bamali, in Kaduna State.
Obi lamented the underutilization of vast arable lands in the North and the closure of numerous industries in the region, attributing these challenges to a lack of political will and inconsistent government economic policies.
Despite these difficulties, Obi underscored the importance of unity among citizens and leaders in confronting the current socioeconomic instability in the country, emphasizing the necessity of collaborative efforts to salvage the situation.
“On Monday, Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, emphasized the imperative for collective involvement in addressing the current state of affairs in Nigeria. He expressed his belief that Nigeria’s struggle with poverty could have been mitigated if political leaders, including himself, had faithfully dedicated themselves to serving the country. Obi stressed that Nigeria, blessed with abundant resources, has no reason to be plagued by poverty if these resources are effectively utilized.
Highlighting the potential of agriculture in the North, Obi emphasized the vast untapped land and its capacity to alleviate poverty, provide food security, supply raw materials for industrialization, and facilitate exports. He emphasized the need for investment in the North, asserting that agriculture could generate more revenue than oil. Furthermore, Obi underscored the link between poverty and insecurity, stating that addressing poverty would ultimately reduce insecurity.”
